How Did We Choose Our Top 2 Best Home Cleaning Products?

I love a clean home! What I don’t love are the unpronounceable chemicals in so many of the cleaning products found on store shelves everywhere!

More and more in our home, we’ve been on the hunt for products that are non-toxic, eco-friendly, pet friendly, and, oh yeah, allergy-friendly too!

One thing I couldn’t sacrifice though was the level of clean it provided. I didn’t want to waste time or money on something if it simply didn’t work!

It needed to be:

  • Effective at cleaning up tough messes
  • A germ killer
  • All-natural/non-toxic
  • Have a pleasant but not an artificial or overpowering scent
  • Budget-friendly
  • Pet friendly for those little paws we love
  • …and multi-purpose for cleaning the whole home

With all that in mind, I took a chance, and purchased these all-natural cleaning alternatives, hoping for the best.

What I didn’t know was how much I’d come to love, and prefer by far, cleaners without chemicals! I think you’d be pleasantly surprised too.

Below are our favorite picks for the best home cleaning products we’ve come to trust and rely on!

# 1 – Better Life Home Cleaning Products

Let me just cut to the chase: their stuff works!

In our home, I’ve used them in almost every room from the kitchen messes to the bathroom. No matter the need – I’ve been impressed when it comes down to grime vs. them.

My favorite product of theirs is the all-purpose clary sage and citrus cleaner wipes. I’ve always been a fan of Lysol or Clorox disinfecting wipes for their ease of use. Now, I’m betting we won’t buy anything other than Better Life.

BETTER LIFE was created by two dads (and lifelong friends) who wanted to show the world that safety and performance can play nice together.

Better Life

Why You’ll Love Them

  • Cleans just as well, or better (if you ask us!), than the leading chemical-based cleaners
  • 100% plant and vegetable-based ingredients
  • 100% biodegradable and eco-friendly. Love your home & planet!
  • NO artificial fragrance, dyes, or chemicals of any kind

# 2 Best Home Cleaning Products – Puracy

There is a reason this line of home cleaning products is an award-winner! It’s been touted by the New York Times as the, “Best all-purpose cleaner.”

Business Insider says, “It’s the best dish soap you can buy.”

The accolades come in, one after another.

I’ll confess – ‘major’ endorsements and other credentials don’t usually impress me. Why? It seems these days everyone is simply trying to sell us something. You can’t always believe what you hear or read, unfortunately.

That’s why when I ordered their Green Tea & Lime All-Purpose Cleaner, I wasn’t expecting a whole heck of a lot, to be perfectly honest with you.

Oh, how I soon changed my tune! I’ve cleaned our floors, countertops, toilets, and yes, even granite with their all-purpose cleansing spray.

Every job I asked it to do, it has done beautifully. As a welcomed bonus, the subtle, natural scent of green tea and lime is crisp and refreshing. Our home not only is clean, but it smells clean too!

A little goes a very long way. Use too much and you’ll see streaks or build-up.

On our bottle of multi-purpose cleaning spray, the instructions say, “One spray for every 2′ x 2′ area.” That’s all you need!

We’re driven by a purpose to help all families be healthier, fight societal injustice, and be empowered with opportunity. For every sud we sell, a portion of the proceeds are donated to charities that work nation-wide to help a diverse range of families in need.

Puracy

Why You’ll Love Puracy

  • It has worked amazingly well for every mess I asked it to clean
  • Made in the USA
  • They give back to charity with every sale!
  • Subtle, but refreshing all natural-scents
  • Skin and Earth-friendly
  • Certified cruelty-free
  • Very affordable on almost any budget
  • 100% non-toxic
  • Money-back guarantee. Love it or leave it!

One thing to note is that Puracy does not claim to be a “disinfectant.” This classification would require the elimination of 99.9% of germs.

Instead, Puracy focuses on being an anti-bacterial all-natural cleanser that leaves very little, if any, germs behind without the use of chemicals.

+ DIY Anti-Bacterial Cleanser Recipes

When it comes to the best home cleaning products, sometimes, the answer is already in your pantry! It might even be super cheap!

These DIY cleaning recipes will keep your home clean, fresh, and non-toxic. It doesn’t get much better than that!

— 3% Hydrogen Peroxide —

Hydrogen peroxide is a powerful cleaning agent!

Think toilet brushes, doorknobs, yucky sinks, sponges, cleaning supplies, and anywhere else those old germs like to hide.

Metal, glass, and plastic are all surfaces where hydrogen peroxide comes in handy.

There is even evidence that 3% hydrogen peroxide undiluted can break down the germs that spread coronavirus. How about that for tough!

How to use as a powerful germ fighter spray:

  1. Pour 3% undiluted hydrogen peroxide into spray bottle
  2. Spray on surface to be cleaned
  3. Let sit for 1 minute and wipe off

For more amazing benefits of hydrogen peroxide, and how to use it, take a look at this must-read post from Michelle at Blessings By Me.

Curious if that bottle of hydrogen peroxide you have is any good?

Tip: Pour a little down the drain in your bathroom sink. If it doesn’t fizz and bubble, it’s no good.

Distilled White Vinegar + Essential Oils

vinegar and essential oils spray

Vinegar is amazing! It is useful in almost every room in your home.

It is highly acidic though, so using vinegar on any surface such as granite or sealed stones, is bad news. It can cause dulling or even permanent damage.

Mixing vinegar and bleach is also a no-go. This combination releases a toxic chlorine gas that is very harmful to your health. Keep this in mind with any home-cleaning brews. 🙂

It is also important to note that while vinegar is a powerful cleaner, it is not classified as a ‘disinfectant.’

What does this mean for us? Vinegar is effective in the war against germs, but it does not kill germs like those which cause COVID.

How to use vinegar as a grime-and-germ–fighting cleaner:

  1. Mix two parts (i.e. two cups) white or cleaning vinegar to one part water in a spray bottle.
  2. Add essential oils for scent (optional) – I use these & love them!
  3. Swirl spray bottle to mix ingredients well
  4. Spray on and let sit for 30 to 60 seconds
  5. Wipe off

My favorite essential oil scents for cleaning? Lemon, sweet orange, and peppermint. 🙂

What about yours?

  1. Thanks for sharing! I’m always looking for new safe products. I currently do use OnGuard (Doterra ~I get from a friend) mixed with water to disinfect. I’ll spray in air or diffuse as well. What do you think of Mrs. Myers products? I love the lavender and the honeysuckle scents!

    1. Hi K.L. 😊 OnGuard sounds interesting. I do know of quite a few people who love Doterra products and recommend them highly!

I’m in agreement with you about the lavender and honeysuckle scents of Mrs. Meyers. It is divine! Although I love their natural scents, I feel like some of their stuff is overpriced a bit? Overall though, I think they have a great natural cleaning line that works pretty well. Do you use Mrs. Meyers in your home along with OnGuard?

Sending love your way. Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! I genuinely appreciate your visit. ♥️

      1. I definitely agree on the price! I use a combination at times. I pretty much use Mrs. Myers. Because I live so “tiny” (in my RV), much less is needed. In the resort (combination of treehouses and cabins) I workkamp, we use OnGuard, vinegar and essential
Oils, and hydrogen peroxide mixtures you described. Dawn, hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, water, so many things to use! I believe we’re going to start using items from the Melaleuca Store soon (a fellow workkamper that owned her own cleaning company highly recommends this). Have a blessed day Holly! Hugs and love! 💕🤗

  2. This was so interesting! Like your first commenter, I use essential oils wherever I can (lemon and lime, tea tree) and white vinegar too. They’re both effective and deliciously scented, as well as so much more environmentally friendly – I love the sound of the Puracy spray though 🙂 Lisa

    1. Hi, Lisa! I love what you said about essential oils. You’re right, they are both effective and smell amazing as a bonus!

I think you’d really love Puracy if you try it. A little bit goes a really long ways, and it smells very fresh.

Thank you so much for coming by and for your thoughtful comment. I appreciate you ♥️

      1. Mmm, those sound amazing! Most of my favorite scents for the home, in general, are the ones you’ve described. “Magnify Your Purpose,” I love the name! It’s funny you should mention Thieves as well. I almost added that to this list as a top 3, but didn’t have enough experience working with it.

I genuinely appreciate you, Shell. I’ve been a bit ‘out of sorts’ this week for some reason and was concerned this post really didn’t come across well. You sharing your thoughts is a blessing, as always. Sending my love to you, friend. I value you. ♥

      2. I’d love to do a blog collaboration with you sometime Holly! I realize we complement one another in so many ways. You’re amazing and your writing comes through clearly. I haven’t been making my own cleaners in this way. I use the Thieves cleaner and add water. BUT there are some in my family who don’t love the “Big Red” smell, so this helped me see a new way and I can do the orange or even add something like Peace & Calming! You’ve given me a new way to clean some areas that are more common for others to use as well!!

Thank you for always writing quality posts.

I’m going to send you a message on IG on your comment on being out of sorts. I’d like to offer encouragement. Love you sis!

      3. Shell, you are so precious. Your encouragement never ceases to amaze me. Thank you!

I’d love to collaborate with you as well. We really do have much in common with similar stories to tell. It’s always refreshing to meet like-minded friends who are also willing to ‘challenge’ us to rise to higher ground. God is good!

Thank you again for all you do to be a blessing. Your words and friendship are so very cherished by me. 🤗

      4. You needn’t apologize, Shell. Believe you me. This week has been pure hell here. (sigh) Praying yours calms down and the presence of our loving Papa saturates your very being!

  3. Some of these products sound lovely and it’s so good to use natural products. Unfortunately I don’t think we have any of these brands in the uk but I am so pleased you have found some eco-friendly products that work for you 💚

    1. Hi, Fiona! It’s wonderful to hear from you here at Wholeness Haven! Thank you for such a thoughtful comment. I hope you’ll stick around and share your thoughts on other subjects. 😊

  4. Ooo these sounds fab! When it comes to cleaning products, I always used to think that I wanted chemical-based stuff because it would be more hardcore and effective, but with the range of natural products coming out now I’m finding that you don’t necessarily need all of the harsh chemicals for anti-bacterial properties and strong cleaning power. I’m like you with the endorsements and wow-ing claims on products; I take them with a pinch of salt because fancy products with big ingredients or celebrity endorsements and such rarely live up to the hype of their purported claims.

You’ve given glowing reviews for both of these! I feel like I’ve heard of Better Life before. I’ll have to investigate because I might be getting mixed up with something else that’s available here in the UK.

I like the sound of Puracy’s Green Tea & Lime one for the clean, refreshing scent. I do get that sense of satisfaction after cleaning when it smells lovely afterwards like a breath of fresh air.

Excellent point on the white vinegar too. I’ve become much more aware of products, including wipes and sprays, in terms of whether or not they’re actually anti-bacterial and anti-viral (sadly finding many seem to be excellent, only to find they’re useless against covid if you’re getting them with that purpose in mind).

Fantastic write-up, Holly! You’ve done these brands proud, I hope they see your post and send you some freebies 😉 It’s always good to get personal recommendations so you know what you’re buying and what to expect.xx

    1. I love how much our minds work alike, my friend. 🙂 It’s really nice to have friends in our lives that get where we’re coming from, you know? By the way, please forgive my delay in reply. This week has been a really tough one with some medical stuff going on to boot!

I know exactly what you mean about chemical vs. natural cleaners. I always felt the exact same way. If I’m cleaning surfaces like my countertops and toilets – I need to *know* they’re truly clean. Apparently, the marketing tactics of those big companies worked, because we were thinking how they wanted us to! And I’ll be honest, it’s refreshing to hear someone else isn’t moved by those big “WOW! Look at this stuff!” claims. Just as you said, it rarely turned out to be anything like the hype.

I’m curious if you do have these products in the UK? If you do, I’d really recommend you try them because they really are amazing. It’s a good feeling to think we don’t have all that crap going into our air and our lungs!

And I 100% agree with you. COVID has definitely brought more awareness to the anti-bacterial, anti-viral, vs disinfectant claims. To be honest, I didn’t realize what the difference was until just recently.

Caz, thank you so much for yet another amazing comment. I am so grateful for you, your support and your friendship. ♥

    1. Sweet sis, it’s wonderful to hear from you! Forgive me for not having been by your blog recently. It has been a bit of a tough time, and I”ve been trying to keep my head above water. I’m sure you understand how that goes!

What is your favorite natural scent, do you think? 🙂

    1. Thank you so much! I agree with you. It’s a good feeling to know we aren’t adding to the toxic nature of our homes and environment, isn’t it? We get enough of that on a daily basis. I genuinely appreciate your comment. It’s great to hear your thoughts!

  5. I love natural cleaners! You just never know exactly what they put in some commercial cleaners and that’s scary. I’ll definitely be checking out the two you mentioned. And I live the smell of Clary sage!

Thank you so much for mentioning my post. You’ve made my day!!

I hope you’re doing well! Hugs and love going your way! ❤️

    1. Natural really is amazing, isn’t it? I always fell into the trap for a long time that if it wasn’t chemicals, it wasn’t clean. Thankfully, my mind is being changed about this more and more all the time. 🙂 The natural cleaning solutions work just as well, if not better, than the chemical-laden store-bought stuff.

I think you’d really love these if you tried them. I’ve been impressed with everything I’ve asked them to do. The smell is refreshing too! If you do try them out, please let me know what you think!

It is my pleasure to mention your post. You were so thorough and gave tons of great ideas, as always. ♥

Many hugs and love headed right back to you. It has been a really tough week, but hey, there’s always tomorrow. Your friendship always brightens my day! 🤗

  6. Thank you for sharing this very useful post and doing so much homework in depth on this. This will sure benefit many of us . I have heard of better life but not Puracy. I will definitely check it out. I love the way you have so nicely listed why you love them .A great post indeed !

    1. Thank you so much, Nisha! I wanted to write up something that was truly helpful vs. just trying to sell something. Honestly, both of these products continue to surprise me at how well they clean! I don’t think we’ll be switching back to other brands any time soon. I really do hope you try these out and see what you think for you and your family. If you do, please let me know your experiences. 🤗

    1. I agree with you 100%. DIY products are best for the very reasons you mentioned. 🙂 We have been absolutely loving everything we’ve gotten from Better Life. I highly recommend them!
